Dear One Tough Muther,
I was born and raised in a rural area and was always around animals. I grew up with five barn cats and a few dogs, so you can say that I am used to being around many pets! My husband and I have two small children and three cats currently, but every time a foster pet mom is needed I am always the first one to wake any pet in and take care of it until it finds a home. The relationships I form with the pets gets harder and harder to break and I have a tougher time giving them away. My husband says we have enough with the three cats we have, but the voice in my heart tells me there is space for plenty more. How many pets is too many doe a family of four? Should I just go against my husband and do what I think is right?
Dear Pet Parent,
I have to be honest I love animals too and would like more but my house has enough with 3 smalls dogs.
I love that you take them in until you can find them loving homes, how wonderful of you because I’d get too attached.
How much is too much? I guess it depends on how much room you have. I mean if you have acres and acres with a barn an such, I guess the sky is the limit, but if you are talking about a average size home, 2 small children and 3 cats sounds sufficient.
What ever way you look at it you must not do this behind you husband’s back. Pets are about as much responsibility as children and it is unfair of you not to take his thoughts into play.
So, unfortunately I don’t know how you live so I’m not sure how many is too many and don’t rattle your husband’s cage by going behind your husband’s back. He has a right to voice his concern.
Good Luck & Huge Muther Hugs,
One Tough Muther
