I’ve been working at my job for 6 months , I work with small kids. I’ve been going to work with a nose ring in and my eye brow piercing without anyone commenting about it. Over the past weekend I visited the salon to get a cut and purple color in my hair & when I went into work Monday my hair was being fussed over. I was told that color like my hair is not permitted while working there. I asked to see it in writing that this is not allowed and they told me there is nothing in writing to show me. I haven’t yet removed the color from my hair and I don’t think I should have to unless I’m shown proof in writing that this is not permitted. Am I going about this ok?

Dear Autumn,

Did you get an employee handbook when you started the job? Is the company owned by a private owner or a corporation?
Realistically, if they owner or someone they appoint asks you to remove the color from your hair and you like the job, I would remove it. I am not sure why the color in your hair is an issue or what the feeling about it is but obviously there is an issue, so ask. Child care laws are different in every state. Ask why the color is offensive without coming defensive. I am sure there is a good explanation.
If the explanation doesn’t suit you then I guess you will have to make a decision, but whatever the outcome be professional and polite.

Good Luck & Huge Muther Hugs,
