Dear OTM,
There is a lot of kidnapping of kids in the news lately and I’m scared. Should I practice with my kids of what they should do if this were to ever happen to them. It will scare them I know.

Dear Leah,

YES, in a calm, cool way so it doesn’t scare them it alerts them. I told my kids to scream and scream and scream, kick and fight and run immediately to the nearest adult or home. It is extremely frightening and children need to be educated and empowered so abduction is difficult for the abductor. I would also tell the children to never leave or go anywhere alone. Stay with the group or your friends and don’t stray away. Also never, never try to help or answer any questions from an adult that walks up to you with questions or calls to you from a car. Just keep walking then run for help.
This subject is so hard but you must make sure your children are aware of their surroundings and alert when you can’t be with them.
Leah, talking to your children on this subject and preparing them is the right thing to do, as sad and scary as it is please talk to them.

Good Luck & Huge Muther Hugs,

One Tough Muther
